10 Fall Things to Do in Gig Harbor This Fall

There is something about fall in Gig Harbor that just feels a little extra special.

The air gets crisp, the trees start showing off, the waterfront gets a little quieter, and suddenly everyone is reaching for their favorite sweater and a warm drink. While summer may get most of the attention around here, fall brings its own kind of charm to Gig Harbor.

If you are looking for ways to enjoy the season, here are 10 of my favorite things to do in Gig Harbor this fall.

1. Take a Walk Along the Waterfront

Start with one of the simplest ways to enjoy fall in Gig Harbor. Grab your coffee, put on a cozy sweater, and take a stroll along the waterfront.

The changing season makes the harbor feel especially peaceful, and there is nothing quite like watching the boats come and go while the leaves begin to change. Add breakfast or lunch at one of the nearby local restaurants and you have yourself a pretty perfect fall morning.

2. Explore Gig Harbor’s Parks and Trails

Fall is arguably one of the best times of year to get outside in the Pacific Northwest. Gig Harbor has more than 20 area parks and miles of trails to explore, from wooded paths to waterfront views.

Take a walk through Sehmel Homestead Park, explore the Cushman Trail, or head to Sunrise Beach Park for a little fresh air and beautiful Puget Sound scenery.

And yes, the answer is absolutely yes if you want to bring your dog along.

3. Visit the Gig Harbor Film Festival

If you love movies, September brings one of Gig Harbor’s favorite annual events, the Gig Harbor Film Festival.

This year’s festival takes place September 24 through 27 at Galaxy Theatres in Gig Harbor. It is a fun way to experience independent films while supporting an event that brings the community together.

It is also a great reminder that there is always something happening around here, even as summer winds down.

4. Make a Fall Day of Downtown Gig Harbor

One of my favorite things about Gig Harbor is that you do not need a big plan to have a great day.

Wander through the local shops, walk the waterfront, grab lunch, and finish the afternoon with a stop somewhere for a little treat.

Fall is the perfect excuse to slow down and spend a few hours exploring downtown without feeling like you have to rush from one thing to the next.

5. Enjoy the Fall Sip & Stroll

September is a beautiful time to enjoy the waterfront, and the annual Fall Sip & Stroll is a fun way to do exactly that.

Gather your friends, explore participating local businesses, and enjoy an afternoon or evening celebrating the season. It is one of those events that feels very Gig Harbor: local businesses, beautiful surroundings, good food and drinks, and plenty of community spirit. The Fall Sip & Stroll is included among Gig Harbor’s annual fall events.

6. Get Into the Halloween Spirit

October is when Gig Harbor really starts leaning into fall fun.

The community calendar includes several Halloween events throughout the month, including the Scarecrow Festival, Trunk or Treat, and trick or treating in downtown and Uptown Gig Harbor.

And if you have little ones, it is worth keeping an eye on the local event calendars as Halloween gets closer. There are usually plenty of opportunities to get dressed up, grab some treats, and enjoy the season as a family.

7. Check Out the Giant Pumpkin Carving

Speaking of Halloween, this one is worth adding to the calendar.

On October 30, Uptown Gig Harbor will host giant pumpkin carving with pumpkin sculptor Russ Leno. The event is free and gives you a chance to watch a giant pumpkin transform right before your eyes. Trick or treating follows later that afternoon.

It is exactly the kind of quirky, family friendly fall activity that makes living in a small community so much fun.

8. Spend an Afternoon Supporting Local Businesses

Fall is a great time to shop local in Gig Harbor.

Take an afternoon to browse the boutiques, visit local makers, pick up something for your home, or start getting a jump on holiday shopping. You never know what you will find when you take your time wandering through the local shops.

And honestly, shopping local feels even better when you can grab a coffee or lunch along the way.

9. Get Outside Before the Rain Really Arrives

There is a very small window between beautiful fall weather and full Pacific Northwest rain season, so take advantage of it.

Pack a picnic, go for a bike ride, take the dog for a long walk, or find a scenic spot to watch the sunset. Gig Harbor's parks and waterfront make it easy to spend time outside, even when the temperatures start dropping.

This is also the perfect time to appreciate something locals already know: living somewhere this beautiful never gets old.

10. Simply Enjoy a Cozy Gig Harbor Weekend

And finally, my favorite fall activity might be the easiest one of all: do a little less.

Sleep in. Get coffee. Take a walk. Browse a few shops. Meet a friend for lunch. Watch the boats. Head home before dinner and light a candle.

Fall does not always need to be packed with plans. Sometimes the best way to enjoy the season is simply to slow down and enjoy where you live.

Fall Just Feels Different in Gig Harbor

There is a reason people love calling Gig Harbor home. It is not just the scenery or the waterfront. It is the community, the local businesses, the parks, the traditions, and all of those little moments that make everyday life feel special.

Whether you have lived here for years or you are considering making a move to Gig Harbor, fall is a pretty wonderful time to experience the community for yourself.

So grab your sweater, your favorite coffee, and maybe a pair of rain boots, and go enjoy everything this little corner of the Puget Sound has to offer.

And if you happen to fall a little more in love with Gig Harbor along the way, I certainly would not blame you.
